Question: Why is Nirvana necessary according to Lord Buddha?
This is a very profound question. According to Buddha, Nirvana is not a "nice option"—it is the only solution.
Because until Nirvana is achieved, the cycle of suffering continues. I am explaining this simply, without any philosophical implications.
1️⃣ Why did Buddha call Nirvana "necessary"? Because Buddha saw only one problem: > "Life, as it is, is full of suffering." And this suffering cannot be eradicated by wealth, enjoyment, or virtue. Until the root of suffering is cut, the solution is incomplete.
👉 Nirvana = the end of the root of suffering.
2️⃣ What is the root of suffering? (Buddha's Diagnosis) Buddha clearly stated: > “Trishna pacchaya dukham” (Trishna is the source of suffering). But craving is not the only thing; behind it are Avidya (ignorance) and Ahankar (I-sense). These three together drive the cycle of birth and death.
👉 As long as these exist, any happiness is temporary.
3️⃣ Relationship between Karma, Rebirth, and Nirvana According to Buddha: Karma is not bound to the body; karma is not bound to the soul; karma is bound to craving. Where there is desire, there is karma; there is fruit; there is rebirth. 👉 Nirvana is necessary because it stops the production of karma.
4️⃣ Why is heaven not the solution? Very important point 👇 Buddha did not consider heaven as the ultimate goal. Why? Because Heaven is also impermanent. Happiness decays there too. One has to fall from there, too. 👉 Falling is not liberation. There is no falling into Nirvana.
5️⃣ Why is meditation incomplete without Nirvana? Meditation can give you peace, joy, and even powers. But if craving remains, meditation also becomes an attachment.
👉 Buddha said: “Even meditation must be given up.” Nirvana is the point where the one who gives up is also freed.
6️⃣ Nirvana = Freedom. Buddha's goal was: Not a better life, not a beautiful life, but: > Complete freedom in which: There is no need to attain anything, no need to become anything, no need to save anything. This is why Nirvana is “necessary.”
7️⃣ What if there is no Nirvana? Buddha's answer was very clear: Suffering will continue, birth will continue, fear will continue, the fear of death will continue, even if the form changes, the situation changes, the world changes.
👉 The cycle does not break.
8️⃣ Buddha's answer in one line > "Suffering exists because there is clinging, clinging exists because there is ignorance. The end of ignorance is nirvana."
