How to Practice Witness Meditation?

Witness Meditation is a very profound and simple method of meditation. In it, the practitioner simply observes their thoughts, feelings, and body movements, without getting entangled in them.

In the tradition of yoga and meditation, this is called "Sakshi Bhaav," which means observing as a spectator.

When we become a witness, we understand that we are not the thoughts, but rather the observers of the thoughts. This experience gradually calms and stabilizes the mind.

What is Witness Meditation?

Witness Meditation means observing your mind, thoughts, and feelings without reacting.

Just as clouds come and go in the sky, thoughts come and go in the mind. In Witness Meditation, we simply observe them, remaining calm like the sky.

How to Practice Witness Meditation

1. Choose a Quiet Place

First, sit in a quiet and clean place.

You can sit comfortably in Padmasana, Sukhasana, or even on a chair.

 2. Stabilize your body

Keep your spine straight and relax your body.

Slowly close your eyes.

3. Focus on your breathing

Now feel your breath.

The breath is coming in and going out – just observe it.

4. Observe your thoughts

After some time, many thoughts will start to come to your mind.

Don't try to stop them.

Just imagine as if you are watching a movie and the thoughts are scenes in that movie.

5. Remain a witness

Watch every thought come and go.

Say to yourself –
"I am not the thoughts, I am the witness."

Gradually, the mind will begin to calm down.

6. End the meditation

After 10–15 minutes, slowly open your eyes and return to normal.
